It is with much sadness and regret that I inform you all that after five and a half years, The Gnu’s Room is no longer able to stay open. We have struggled for quite some time to continue to be a place for the community to come and experience the arts. We have supported authors, poets, musicians and artists by providing a place for them to share their gifts with the community. We have cross-promoted other arts organizations and we have donated countless books to other local non-profits to support literacy. We have provided the community with a comfortable and welcoming space in which to hang out and to meet with others. In short, the goals I had when taking over the business have come to fruition but there has not been enough corresponding financial investment on behalf of the community to allow us to remain open.
Due to the continued lack of revenue we have been experiencing, there is no longer the hope to keep this location. We can’t sell enough books to pay the rent, utilities and other overhead associated with having a storefront. We do not have an exact closing date since we need to sell as much inventory as we can to try and pay off the debts that the store owes to creditors.
Please note that Mama Mocha’s Coffee Emporium will continue to do business.
