Dr. Wayne Lee McLaughlin, now retired, practiced dentistry in Auburn for forty years (1957-1997). Dr. McLaughlin has written a book full of stories and memories of his hometown Blue Springs, Alabama, entitled Blue Springs. The inspiration for the book was born of a desire to leave a written tribute for his children and grandchildren about what remarkable people their ancestors were — to know, appreciate and attempt to add to their genealogy and, “Finally, for a small boy, the tiny town of Blue Springs was a natural paradise in which to grow up. Springs, swamps, a river, fields and forest abounded. I wanted to tell my children and grandchildren what it was like.” Blue Springs is a bit of an unconventional book combining genealogy, family history, a history of the tiny town of Blue Springs, Alabama, including glimpses of a time when new inventions like electricity were cause for excitement in the author’s community.
Dr. McLaughlin will be at The Gnu’s Room to share from Blue Springs and will be available to sign copies of his book. If you are unable to attend the event but would like a signed/inscribed copy, please contact us and we will be glad to reserve one for you, 334-821-5550.
