    Russell Gulley, a native of Fort Payne, AL, will make his second appearance at The Gnu's Room. As a veteran Muscle Shoals songwriter and musician, Gulley was one of the founding members of Jackson Highway, a classic southern rock band right out of the 70's - a time when Skynyrd was king and the Southeast was the breeding ground for roots rock and roll, soul, blues, country, and gospel. Today, he proudly carries on that Shoals tradition with his current work, which he classifies as Americana/Swamp Rock/Blues.     The Gnu's Room is pleased to be one of the co-sponsors of a free event at Pioneer Park in historic Loachapoka, Alabama. Hank Fest will feature music by Helen Boudreaux and Wire Grass, and will introduce the newest book by Auburn favorite Rheta Grimsley Johnson. Hank Hung the Moon: And Warmed Our Cold, Cold Hearts is Rheta Grimsley Johnson’s evocative and personal tale of 1950s and ‘60s musical staples, all viewed through the life story of Hank Williams and the people he influenced. The book celebrates a world of 78 rpm records and 5-cent Cokes. Hank provides the soundtrack and wisdom for this Last Picture Show of a book. Stories you haven’t heard a thousand times before about people who love Hank, some famous, most not, fill this lively little book, which uses Hank as a metaphor for life. You’ll tap your toe and demand an encore. The Mystic Order of East Alabama Fiction Writers will be on hand with popcorn and peanuts for sale in the field house. You are invited to being your own beverages. The event ends at 6:00 p.m. at 3:30 pm

    The Gnu's Room welcomes Gypsy Blues, a dance troupe led by local tribal fusion bellydance instructor Seraphina. Seraphina, who teaches classes in Auburn at the Dean Road Rec Center, formed the troupe at the request of students wanting to help popularize this special form of dance. The troupe will perform several numbers showcasing the skills learned in class. There is no charge for this performance, however donations are welcome and will go to the performers.
